There was someone waiting right outside of the airport when we arrived to drive us to Antigua. I'm so glad I did! Lorenn was very responsive when I first contacted Guatemalan Adventure. Read moreįeeling a little overwhelmed booking my first international trip I decided to book the Best of Guatemala tour. When traveling solo, my top concerns are safety but also having a good time - and for me, JoLuis made it all happen! Highly recommend. Ultimately I am very satisfied with my experience. My driver was waiting for us at the bottom, and I was back at my hotel before I knew it. The walk down was also nice - most of the hike is under trees/foliage so not too much direct sun, and there was a little breeze as well. FYI there was another opportunity to ride a horse (or donkey?) back down, but I wasn't interested. The view at the top was great and expansive - we could see other volcanoes + surrounding areas as well, and my guide let me have as much time as I needed to take it all in. I also recommend bringing extra water - the shops at the bottom were closed when I had my tour, and it can get hot on the way up! Finally, wear long pants/hiking boots and apply insect repellent. He then took out his own stick), which really helped with both the ascent and especially the descent. But I do recommend either renting or bringing a stick after we started walking uphill, I took out my own stick (to my guide's surprise, and relief lol. I was offered a horse and walking stick when we arrived, which I simply declined.

My driver also pointed out beautiful sights on the way, which I appreciated - Guatemala really is a beautiful country. On the day of the tour, pick-up was prompt and communication open & friendly! :) The drive to the trailhead was a leisurely hour or so, in a well-appointed vehicle with air conditioning.

A day beforehand, I was sent a helpful leaflet of what to expect and/or bring. This tour was excellent from start to finish.
