From a developer standpoint, it forces you to think twice about whether you really need to collect a piece of data from a user or not. This is then displayed on the app's home page in the app store before you even download it.įrom a user standpoint this is good - you get to know what the app is up to if it's collecting your data. For every app put on the app store, it has to state clearly (a) what data (if any) it collects, (b) the purpose for collecting it and (c) if the data can be used to personally identify the user in any way. Their data collection policies are also pretty good. Users can not only prevent an app from tracking their activity across the web (Facebook was and still is very pissed about this), but it's also done in a very standardized way for the user for every app. Some of their policies I absolutely like.įor example, their ATT (App Tracking Transparency) is a win for users.
